On 20th October Kelly, Elli, Diane and Gen competed at the Area Festival at Arena UK. It was an extremely early start leaving the yard at 5am!
Still dark when we arrived the warm up classes were first. Kelly rode her own Chaim T (Slim!) he was a very good boy and carried off a ‘safe’ test to win the Novice with 68.85% Elli rode a very excitable Fitz who had just settled down after over an hour of warm up to score 66.15 and get 3rd place.
Diane then competed Nico in the Elementary warm up class to score 64.71% to get 4th which she was quite pleased with as there were some mistakes due to Nicos lack of concentration!

Later in the morning the huge Petplan Area Festival classes began. Again Kelly being one of the first to compete in the Novice Open was over the moon with Slim, he was more rideable although got a little tense and short in his neck but he is only 5 years old and can be forgiven 🙂 he stayed in the lead with 69.68% right up to the end of the class until Gen riding Elaine Hack’s pony Barney pipped him to 1st place with 70.48% It still meant that both have qualified for the Championships at Hartpury!
Elli also competed Fitz in the Novice Area Festival and was very pleased with how he went to say he was such a tyrant at the start of the day. He scored 65.97% to still receive a top ten placing out of 33 competitiors! He is also only 5 years old and shows like this are such good experience for for them.
Diane went on to compete in the Elemantary Open Area Festival and was happy with Nico scoring 63.28% to finish in 6th place. Gen competed Barney in this class too and scored 64.14% to get 5th place.
Gen also competed on the Sunday on Elaine’s Always Owen in the Advanced Medium classes, winning the first class and coming 6th in the Area Festival class.
At the beginning of October we made the extremely sad decision to have Pie put to sleep as he developed a neurological problem which affected his balance.
He had a fantastic and successful career with Becky winning many competitions upto Grand Prix. He taught Becky a lot of what she knows now. He became famous for his demo with Becky at the British Open in Sheffield and wowed everyone with his performance. Pie was the ‘schoolmaster’ of the yard and taught many people how to ride the more advanced movements and how to establish the basics, walk, trot and canter.
Last summer he retired to Rockley Abbey Farm with Linzi. He had a wonderful retirement hacking around the woods and going for canters up the fields which he loved.
Many thanks go to Linzi and Tracy who gave Pie the star treatment he deserved in his retirement and also to Amy and Holly.
We have had a couple of yard trips out to try and get everyone qualified for the Winters.
We went to Aldham Mill on 30th September, it was mainly successful with our newcomer to the yard Elli Darling winning both Novice classes on Fitz (Fix Up, Look Sharp) with brilliant scores of 71.66 and 70.96 + a H&H write up! And also winning the Medium with Chunky (Don Karibia) on 64.4%.
Pip Corbett riding Julie Lockey’s ‘Reg’ had a consistent day getting 2nd with 65% in the Ad Med and 3rd in the A100 with 65.62%.
Gen Walters was very pleased with Elaine Hack’s Always Owen winning the Ad Med with 66.57% and gaining 63.12% in his first A100.
Diane Vardey had a mixed day with her own Nico getting 2nd with 67.93 in the first Elementary and then being spooky and tense in the second test.
Josie and Troy won the A100 with a very good score of 68.43% so was very pleased and Kelly came 2nd on Jordas with 66.87%. Susan Riley had a good day competing Jordas for the first time in the Ad Med and will hopefully be out again soon!
Moving on to Vale View on 14th Oct, again was a good day for all with Kelly winning the first Novice with 74.58% on her own Chaim T (Slim!) and then getting 67.1% for 3rd place in the second test in a different arena which had a piece of very scary material stuck to the wall so was a little tense!
Elli rode Tori Bahl’s Don Karibia in Both Medium tests to gain 63.03 and 64.71 which was slightly disappointing as Elli felt the second test was considerably better than the first.
Becky competed Josies Don Angelo in the Ad Med to win on 70.53% and then in his first Advanced to also win that with 70.88% – he is definately one to watch!
Ryan was very pleased with Charlie getting 66.32 in the Ad Med and then espescially in his first Inter 1 where he scored a great 67.37%
Kirsty Mellor had a good day competing Kwadraat to get 68.82 in the Advanced class and 2nd place.
Gen was pleased with Owen once again in the Ad Med and the Advanced. Then finally Becky competed Caluna and Wally in the Grand Prix which is excellent practice to see where they are at in their training for the High Profile Shows. 🙂
Donna has found a wonderful new home with Becky and will be staying nearby so we are looking forward to seeing and hearing from them 🙂
16hh 4year old superbly home-bred bright bay mare. An excellent laid back temperament who really wants to please. Donna is proving to be extremely trainable and rideable. Has been taken to her first show and behaved very well.
Hacks out happily and is good to box and shoe, not mareish at all and loves all the attention she can get!
Would suit an amateur rider wanting a sensible, stunning, look at me horse.
In this clip, our farrier Dean Bland discusses some of the features and benefits of using the Imprint First shoe. This therapeutic heart-bar support shoe is regularly prescribed by vets for the treatment of laminitis, hoof defects and other foot conditions.

‘Dot’ a Dutch Part Bred Welsh pony is owned by Becky who has been ridden by Hariette Williams, they scored 88.85% to go into the Head Studbook and she was also awarded the Elite accolade as she (with Harriette) was on the 2012 GB Pony Euros Dressage Team.
