KWPN Grading Show

Roger and Ellis contemplating what lays ahead….
Dorie, Dolly & Roger!

Go,Go,Go!!!
Roger looks like a midget here haha (must be the angle of the camera!)

Dorie (Sir Donnerhall/Jazz) won the KWPN Foal Inspection at Merecourt Stud, Blackpool at the beginning of September – hopefully starting as she means to go on. She will be weaned soon from her mum Dolly who is in foal to Damon Hill for next year (V exciting!) Julie also took her big chestnut foal (Zack/Mooiman) who was placed 2nd – so a very successful day and many thanks go to Julie, Roger & Ellis for all the preperation and time that goes into producing our future dressage stars 🙂

The Nationals 2012

With 7 horses from the yard leaving for the Nationals on Wednesday afternoon we were prepared for the next few days being very hectic!

Day One started the competition very well with Becky winning the Inter II National Title on Caluna with 68.92%.  Becky rode  a super test although keeping the piaffe and passage quiet so Caluna did not get too tense and gave them both a good experience despite the pressure. We are very excited for when Caluna can perform the piaffe and passage in a test like she can at home as it is awesome!  Along with the prize money and trophey Becky also won a rug, and Le Meiux boots, bandages and saddle cloth from Horse Health who kindly sponsored the class. Linzi was also awarded a tankard for being the winning horses groom. Wally gained a very credible 66.21% to get 5th place in a very strongly contested class so we were all extremely pleased. 🙂

The focus for us on Day two was the Inter I competition where Becky had Emma Gallagher’s Andy Lykkegaard and once again Caluna in the class to try and get through to the top 15 to be put through to the music on Saturday. It was always going to be very tough as the competition was so hot but both horses got through to the top ten. Andy at only 16hh is not the biggest moving horse and made Becky ride every stride in the test so she was very pleased that he got through and Caluna had a couple of unfortunate mistakes missing out on the higher scores that she has proved she is more than capable of achieving but still getting in the top ten was excellent!

Day three (half way through!) and it was the assessment of the Potential International 5 year old Dressage Horse Competition with Carinsio. The pressure is always on for Becky to do well with Jack (Carinsio) as his competition record speaks for itself! So trying to push the nerves to one side Becky rode Jack through the test – although pleased with it and scored 8.3 Shadow Line just pipped her to the post with 8.32. Jack had to step up a gear for the Finals the next day 🙂

The Inter I music was in the afternoon – Caluna was tired by this point and made a mistake in her changes (and then tripped!) even though Becky did mange to get them in again at the end (thats the beauty of freestyle!). There were mixed comments from the judges on her choice of music, most loved it and one didnt! But the full audience seemed to enjoy both tests and gave big round of applauses with her finishing 8th on Andy and 9th on Caluna.

Day 4 was possibly the busiest of all! First off, Becky had Peanut (Le Chiffre), Sam Brown’s pony stallion in the Elementary open. At only 5 years old and with very little competition experience he behaved extremely well and the experience will have done him the world of good! Next was Josie’s Don Angelo in the Advanced Medium open class – having been very giddy when Becky had worked him Thursday, Friday and Saturday he got a little bit of stage fright when he went in and decided to be the complete opposite! The trot work was stunning, but the canter had a couple of mistakes. He finished 6th on 70.84% which was great in such a strong class, and we know he could have had a top 3 placing if he had been really on form! Donald is a super horse and we can’t wait for Josie to hopefully be at next years Nationals on him 🙂

The last class of the competition was the Young Horse Final. The top two from the 4 year old and 5 year old class went through to the ride off where they were put through their paces again with their normal rider and then with Andrew Gould (The Rider Judge)  to assess the horses rideability and feel. Andrew was safely on board Jack as asking Jack to stand in a situation like that is always a mission! He took him away and rode him with complete ease, Jack looked powerful, yet loose and effortless. The judges were won over by Jacks rideability, paces, power and temperament and went onto win the Championships 🙂 which was very much deserved! It was a real turnaround as not only did Jack become champion after coming second the day before the 4year old who also got second on the Saturday was awarded reserve champion, so it proves that rideability really is high contributing factor to these young horses!

An Absolute Bargain………….

SOLD – Louis has found the most wonderful home with Nicola in Wales.

Louis is a stunning 16.3hh 5 year old chestnut gelding by Don Ricos (Don Fredrico, Donnerhall) out of a Hohenstein mare. He was bred in France at the Haras du LH Hanoverian Stud.

He has been brought on slowly, giving him time to mature and strengthen and competed very successfully in the 5 yr old Young Horse Class at Sheepgate.

He has got three fantastic, very balanced paces and works in a natural uphill frame.

He loves attention and fuss and great to deal with.

For sale on behalf of a client who has owned him since he was 4 weeks old, so very sad sale due to work and family commitments.

Louis is sound and never been lame but he will not pass a 5 stage vetting. Therefore we are offering Louis at a massively knocked down price of around £4000 for a quick sale.

He will make someone a super horse who has not got the funds to put into another horse of the same quality and calibre.

7th best 5 year old IN THE WORLD!!!

The remarkable Carinsio aka Jack did not disappoint in Verden at the World Young Horse Championships.

After a rather stressful trot-up for Becky but the most exciting thing EVER for Jack he settled down eventually and worked well the evening before the first competition.

With over 1000 horses there to compete in both the dressage and show jumping you can imagine the atmosphere was electric – both Becky and Jack coped very well with any nerves they may have had and pulled off a super test in the qualifier to gain a very credible 8.32 putting them in 8th place out of 40+ horses. This meant they went straight through to the final of 15 horses on the Saturday.

We had a nice relaxing day on the Friday and watched the 6 year old class in awe of Michael and Farouche who won the final with 9.88 – very well deserved!

In reverse order the finals took place – Becky and Jack presented another wonderful test – the judges commented on each test after they had been ridden and Jack’s comments were ‘so much to like, a very well trained horse but they would just liked to have seen him more forward’ which was fair as they had said they would liked to have seen most of the horses more forward that day! Their score of 8.26 moved them up a place to finish 7th – best of the brits in the 5yr old class – this is such an amazing achievement and makes everyone so proud 🙂

We are all back safe and sound although a little tired but looking forward to the next big show being the Nationals in September!

On our way……….

Photo: AND THERE OFF! Bec, Jack and Kelly have just left for Verden- via The Eilbergs and The Bartles!! Good luck you crazy fools! Team MOORINSIO!

Becky, Kelly & Jack on their way to the Eilbergs – the first part of their journey to Verden World Young Horse Championships! Kelly came home after dropping them off and will fly out to Verden with Julie on Wednesday whilst Becky and Jack set off with the Eilbergs to the Bartles for 3 nights to break their trip up. Anne & Patrick are setting off on Tuesday with Frank (the lorry) so we all have somewhere to stay and if all goes according to plan we will all meet up on Wednesday aft/eve for the trot up!

Will let you know how it all goes next week 🙂

The Amazing Fantastic Mr Jack Jack Moody-Lockey………..

On Monday 16th July Becky, Patrick and Jack headed down to a very wet Hickstead for Becky to compete Jack in the 5yr old International and National Semi Final Classes. With Patrick on hand (Father, Trainer, Driver, Groom and Video Man) Becky was just pipped into 2nd place with a great score of 94% in the National class and then again into 2nd place with 87% in the International Class behind Anders Dahl and the very gorgeous Cashmir. (Not as gorgeous as Jack tho, obviously!) This was still good enough to be put through into the Final which was on Saturday as the top 6 went through.

So………. Patrick and Jack came all the way home after managing to get out of the field (it did take two massive tractors 45minutes to tow Frank into the field the day before!) and Becky then set off to France from Hickstead to help and support the Pony Team at the Europeans, inparticularly Harriette Williams who has the ride on Becky’s pony Madams Miss Maria or Dot as we call her!

Jack had a couple of days playing in the field and hacking before being loaded up again into Frank on Friday afternoon for the trip back down to Hickstead but this time with Kelly and Anne! We should have known Friday afternoon before the holidays started was not going to be a good time to travel and it wasnt – 7 hours later we arrived – we did have some entertainment on the way tho (if you want to call it that!) as we were stuck in the bumper to bumper traffic on the M25 two men Polish men got out of their wagon next to us and had the longest wees EVER at the side of their wagon on the motorway for everyone to see! We were completely gob-smacked and found it quite funny hahaha

We met Becky back at Hickstead at around 8pm – Becky rode Jack to fine tune him for the Finals the morning after – it was then tea and bed!

An early start and the sun was shining – Becky was 2nd to ride in the Final Class of 6 – and they performed their most wonderful test yet – it was quite emotional 🙂 after each test the judges (Mark Ruddock, Paul Hayler and K Kruger) spoke to the audience about what they thought of each test, positives and negatives – Becky and Jack’s comments were ‘that it was an absolute pleasure to watch and no faults could be found. They are a perfect partnership and Jack is the ideal happy athelete with no flaws in his training at all!’ –  97.6% which took them to win the Finals with Cashmir in 2nd place with 92%.

A truly excellent result which will hopefully stand them in good stead for Verden next week – fingers xd! Along with Michael Eilberg riding Farouche who won the 6 yr old Finals with 99.6%!!! It is very exciting to have these two horses representing Great Britain and it is even more exciting to be part of it 🙂

The Moody Team would like to give a huge thank you to everyone involved in helping make it all possible 🙂

European Pony Championships

We think the team did an amazing job!

We are very proud of Harriette and Dot at their first Europeans – being first on, on the first day is not easy but they still got a great score! Well Done 🙂

Summary of the competition taken from the BD website –

Great Britain’s Pony riders were up against tough competition at the European Pony Championships in Fontainebleau, France last week (18-22 July).

The event began with the team test and all the British riders put in a fantastic effort. Team newcomer Harriette Williams and Madam’s Miss Maria were drawn first to go on the first day of the team competition and were awarded 67.128%. Phoebe Peters also rode her test on the first day and scored 70.923% with SL Lucci, the highest British score in the team test. Erin Williams with Dynasty and Maisie Scruton with Rembrandt DDH both rode on Thursday, scoring 70.718% and 69.359% respectively.

Despite the team’s best efforts, they finished just outside the medals and had to settle for fourth place in the team competition with an average score of 70.333%. The Germans managed to take top spot with 74.744% with the Netherlands close second (74.128%) and the Danes in third (72.752%).

The individual competition on Friday and Saturday brought with it an improved score for Erin and Dynasty with 71.781% and they finished tenth. Phoebe and SL Lucci were not far behind on 70.439% in fourteenth. Maisie and Rembrandt DDH finished 19th on 69.195% and Harriette finished in 23rd place on 67.512%
Both Erin and Dynasty and Phoebe and SL Lucci went through to the Freestyle on Sunday. Erin finished in seventh place with a score of 74.900% and Phoebe and SL Lucci scored 70.525% to finish in 14th place.

Sheepgate PL, Hartpury & Frys Regionals 2012

We have had a busy few weeks which has included the above competitions – they have  mainly been successful with the odd disappointment!

Sheepgate Premier League managed to stay fairly dry although the fields were already so wet the stables got quite muddy and some lorrys had to be towed out but nevertheless as always the Sheepgate Team held an excellent show!

Becky won the Inter 1 riding Emma Gallagher’s ‘Andy on 70.57% and came 4th in the PSG on 68.33% – Emma did very well on Andy too coming 7th with 65.75% in the Inter 1 on the second day.

Becky also had a good show riding both Julie Lockey’s Wallenstein and Caluna in the GrandPrix gaining consistent scores of 65.25% & 65% on the first day and  Caluna gaining 67.77% on the second day to get 4th place and Wally with 65.57% to get 7th place.

Becky then went on to ride Nikki Moxon’s Renoir in the 4yr old YH Class where they came 2nd with 77.6% and Heidi Hutchinson’s De Ja Vu (Louis) in the 5yr old YH Class where they came 7th which was excellent for Louis’ first show!

Kelly also competed in the 5yr old YH Class on her own Chaim T (Slim) bought from Julie of course! and they scored a brilliant 73.6% to gain 5th place in a very big YH Class.

Josie, Grace and Ryan all had a good show too competing in the Young Rider Classes 🙂

Hartpury Festival of Dressage was another excellent show and very well organised despite the weather (again!) Becky took the amazing Carinsio (Jack Jack) to compete in the Shearwater 5yr old YH Finals – they produced an excellent test even tho the walk was a little tense and came away with a rather disappointing score leaving them in 6th place – which was still brilliant but not upto Jack’s normal standard 🙂 (which he deserved in our un-biased opinion of course!)

Frys Regionals stayed dry – Yaaay!!! Becky had an excellent ride on Sam Brown’s pony Le Chiffre in the warm up Medium Class and then in the Elementary Open Regional class coming 2nd with 70.94% qualifying for the Nationals 🙂

Pip Corbett also had a great show winning the Advanced Medium Restricted Regional with 66.32% on Julie Lockey’s Sea Sapphire Dance (Reg) also qualifying for the Nationals – Well Done!

Emma Corbett just missed out in the PSG on her own Furst Diamantino coming 3rd with 66.01% with a safe and mistake free test. Grace riding her own Westminster Rapscallion and Emma riding her own Andy Lykkegaard also did extremely well qualifying for the Regionals but did not manage to make it through to the Nationals this time (Andy was a very very naughty boy, but takes a nice picture, as you can see below!)
